TOUR: Climbing Chachani

Description: the peaks of Chachani, together with the volcano Misti, dominate the view from the city of Arequipa. During a 2 day tour, you will travel to the top and enjoy the stunning view. Chachani is a complex massif with many summits but very little snow. There are archaeological remains near the summit.

ITINERARY.

DAY 1.
We leave from Arequipa and follow the old road to Chivay, beyond Aguada Blanca. The road turns along the flank of the mountain to Cutipampa, and the transport drops us at 5.000 m.a.s.l. From this altitude, we walk up to 5.400 metres where we have our main camping site.

DAY 2.
We reach the top in approximately 7 hours. Then we return to our main camp at 5.000 metres, a walking trip of about 2 ½ hours. Afterwards we take the transport back to Arequipa.

TECHNICAL INFORMATION.
Classification       : Moderate
Minimum altitude : 4.800 m.a.s.l.
Maximum altitude: 6.075 m.a.s.l.

The best time to climb in this region is between April and September, during the Andean summer. During the rest of the year, it is also possible to climb here, but it is more likely to have some bad weather. The rescue police see for the safety of all mountaineers in the region.
